Ópusztaszer, the history that lives with us

Today not only the Arrival of the Hungarians (Feszty-körkép) appeals the visitors but also the park with its programs offers entertainment for several days.
The Árpád monument was raised here in the age of the millenium rembering the historic traditions written by Anonymus and here was excavated the ruins of the monastery temple of the late Szer rural town. Monastery of Szer was one of the biggest friar institutions of the Great Plain in the middle age, archaeologists are still working on its excavation.
The most known attraction of the Memorial Park is Árpád Feszty: the Arrival of the Hungarians titled round picture. The 15 m high, 120 m long panorama painting is rightly world famous not only because of its grandiose size but also because of its artistic workmanship. The screen stretched in round shape and the plotting board in front of it make the visitor to feel being involved into the events. The round museum building that gives place for the Arrival of The Hungarians also gives home for more other constant and periodic exhibitions. The Open Air Folk Art Collection shows folk architecture and peasant world of the Szeged Big Area. The Open Air Museum’s farm and country town homes, workshops, communal buildings, offices, working grocery, multi level wind mill show us the period between the two world wars.
The age of the Settlement of the Magyars is brought back in the Nomad Park where authentic yurts and craftsman works and nomad playground wait for the visitors who can try the terrifying weapons of nomad nations.
The special yurt-like buildings of Gyögy Csete and Jenő Dulánszky slick into the environment. Separeted from the Csete yurts adorned by Scythian motives and patterns from the Age of Settlement we can find the House of Hungarians in The World, the Crown Yurt and the Ecumenical Chapel.
