                         Special values
Continuing our explorations in the area of the Geopark,
we offer some safe, cost-saving yet unparalleled experi-
                     ences.
Instead of Cappadocia in Turkey, we recommend that
you visit the rhyolite tuff of Kazár, formed during Mio-
cene volcanic activity. The spectacle of the stone falls
reminds us of a lunar landscape. The village also off ers
plenty of Palóc ethnographic attractions to visitors.
Instead of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, a trip to the gor-
ge valley of the Párizs brook, which runs along Nógrád-
szakál, is actually a journey into the “adolescence” of the
Earth. After the tour, the nearby Ipoly River may provide
an additional experience (swimming, fishing) at Rárós-
                     puszta (farmland).
Instead of the Chinese Guyaju ancient cave houses, we
can visit the cave home on the Kőlyuk side in Kishar-
                     tyán.
Instead of visiting Mount Olympus in Greece, we pro-
pose that you conquer the Palóc Olympus, i.e. the Ka-
rancs hill from Salgótarján or from Somoskőújfalu along
the tourist signs. And we should not forget: the High
Tatra Mountains are not seen from the Greek Olympus,
but they are especially beautiful from the Palóc Olym-
pus. Up on the hill, a chapel and a lookout tower wait
                     for tourists.
Instead of the exciting and moving Vesuvius of Italy,
we recommend visiting the volcanic peak of the Salgó
Mountain, or the basalt flow of Somoskő. They cooled
down 4 million years ago, and thus are much safer than
                     their Italian “relatives”.
                                                                                                    5
