A Balaton-felvidéken járva, Nagyvázsonyban a Kinizsi
vár lakótornya üdvözöl bennünket már messziről.
Várpalotán a törökök ellen hősiesen harcoló Th uri
György kapitányról kapta nevét a vár, melyet a Zichy
család a XVIII. század elején építt etett barokk kastély-

lyá. A felújítást követően számos állandó és időszakos
kiállításnak ad helyet a Magyar Vegyészeti Múzeum és a

Bányászattörténeti Gyűjtemény mellett .
Sümeg városához bármely irányból is közelítünk, fölénk
magasodik a XIII. században épült vár romja. A Dunán-
túl legnagyobb romvárához kényelmes sétaút vezet, s
a várban hangulatos várjátékok, szabadtéri előadások
nyújtanak kellemes kikapcsolódást.

fortresses

and castles

As we roam the Balaton Uplands, the residential tower of
Kinizsi Castle in Nagyvázsony greets us from afar.
In Várpalota, the fortress was named after Captain György

Thuri who fought heroically against the Turks. Th e family
Zichy had the fortress rebuilt into a baroque castle at the
beginning of the 18th century. Following the renovation,
it has housed numerous permanent and temporary exhibi-
tions, in addition to the Museum of Hungarian Chemistry
and the Collection of Mining History.

No matter from which direction we approach the town of
Sümeg, the ruins of the castle built in the 13th century and
the hill are clearly visible. A comfortable walk leads to the
largest castle ruin of Transdanubia, where amusing castle
tournaments and open-air performances off er unforget-
table experiences.
