The history of the Castle of Regéc is similar to the Castle of Füzér. The eagle nest on top of a hill was most certainly build by the Aba family. The fort after many sieges and change in ownership become the possession of the Rákóczi family and their members spend much time inside those walls. Ferenc Rákóczi II Grand Prince spend most of his child life here. With the collapse of his foster father’s, Imre Thököly’s power and after the capture of the castle the defence works were destroyed by the king’s orders in 1686. The remains decayed over the centuries. Archaeological excavations started in 1999. A partial reconstruction was made as part of a huge project. The previous old tower was rebuilt and a reception build was made at the feet of castle hill. At the end of the works the castle was opened to the public in the spring of 2016. The centre of the exhibition is the child Ferenc Rákóczi II. We have to mention a mansion alongside the castles. One of Hungary’s most significant mansion is the L’ Huillier-Coburg at Edelény. It was built in the XVIII Century as a noble home and was rebuilt in the XIX Century. In the second half of the XX Century it was home for the District Court as well as home for the elderly. Due to the lack of renovation the state of the mansion was bad at the change of millennium. Thanks to the inside and outside renovation made in the Mansion Island of Edelény project the building is in its former glory as well as the mansion park. Furthermore the mansion island is restored to its original state. The mansion serves as the centre of the events in the area and as a museum as well. Alongside the beautiful building the visitors can admire the picture painted in the XVIII Century or get familiar with the map collection and the ‘People Super’ exhibition evoking the 1945-68 area.
