                                                              Water tour on the Kurca river
                                                              Starting from the town centre, the adventurer may soon
                                                              immerse themself in the “wild world” of the Kurca. Here,
                                                              even the wildlife becomes richer. Depending on the season,
                                                              we can observe smaller and larger water birds, marsh turtles,


                                                              and colourful flying insects. The more than ten-kilometre
                                                              tour route runs along the bends, on wild and romantic wa-
                                                              ters, between reed walls, to the turning point at the Berki
                                                              lock and back.
                                                              Bicycle tour to the Bökényi Dam

                                                              The tour, starting from the gate of the Széchenyi Park, takes
                                                              you out of the residential area on the bicycle path that leads
                                                              towards the town of Csongrád, and up onto the Tisza em-

                                                              bankment. There is a pumping station that was once oper-
                                                              ated by steam engines at the “big chimney”. Riding along
                                                              the dam, reaching the starting point of the Kurca river, we
                                                              are riding along the Körös river towards the Bökényi Dam.

                                                              The cyclist reaches the former, so-called “needle” dam at the
                                                              “stone ship” built into the embankment, which is located


                                                              below, at the riverbed. This was the first reinforced concrete
                                                              water structure in Hungary. On the way back, we can also
                                                              choose the paved road.
                                                              Hiking to the Th ermal Lake

                                                              Three tours start from the Thermal Lake Eco-Tourism Base,

                                                              which allow visitors to explore the lake and its surroundings.

                                                              The green one is 6.2 km, the yellow one is 3.2 km, and the
                                                              red one is 10 km long. Six information boards have been
                                                              placed in the area describing the animals and the plants
                                                              that are living here, as well as about the lake itself. Th e water
                                                              surface, lined with reeds and sedges, is a waterfowl habitat
                                                              and an important resting and nesting place for the strictly
                                                              protected migratory bird species.
