The concerts of the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra of Deb-
recen and the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen
invite us to take a trip into the world of classical music. One of
the most impressive concert venues is the Great Reformed
Church with its excellent acoustics, where organ and Advent
concerts are held regularly. The lovers of lighter genres are
entertained by domestic and foreign bands and performers at
the year-round cultural events and in bars of various styles. Dur-
ing the season of summer festivals, the many programmes of
the Campus Festival and the Debrecen Flower Carnival are
entertaining those looking for fun. The celebration culminates
on 20th August, when, during the Flower Carnival, spectacular
fl oral compositions, which show legends, tales and stories, are
brought around the city on ornate carriages, accompanied by
domestic and foreign dancers and tradition-preserving groups.
There are performances and programmes in the spirit of fl ow-
ers, dance and music in several locations throughout the day.
