Where tradition is
an experience
In Kaposvár, the weekend closest to Dorothy’s Day (6
February) is the traditional time of the carnival. On this
day, Miss Dorothy and the Prince of Carnival arrive in
the city with a colourful hustle and bustle; the town’s
young and old, and the visiting guests join the parade, in-
cluding a significant number of the participants in the
“Hills of Kaposvár” carnival half-marathon running race.
At the beginning of summer, the cavalcade of the Rippl-
Rónai Festival recalls the time of József Rippl-Rónai and
János Vaszary with people dressed in period clothes. In
addition to the stage shows, a craft fair, great exhibitions,
and a bohemian and busy city centre await the visitors.
In mid-August, lovers of classical music visit the town to
enjoy the world-class concerts of the Kaposfest in the
Rainbow Palace of Culture. Kaposvár bids farewell to the
summer with the concerts of The City is Ours Festival
at the beginning of September, followed by the Honey
Festival in the middle of the month. During Advent, the
residents of the town celebrate together in the city centre
illuminated by Christmas lights.
