Academic life and research
The university’s doctoral schools cover the fields of engi-
neering, earth sciences, mechanical engineering, materi-
als science, law, and economics. The aim of the research
is to facilitate economic and social innovation, develop
the culture of innovation and increase international com-
petitiveness. The University of Miskolc has been included
in the world rankings (QS, THE, RUR), with outstanding re-
sults in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, and
mechanical sciences.
Research and development and innovation
The university’s strengths are technical innovation and
multidisciplinary research. Today’s key topics include
energy transition, recycling of secondary raw materials,
renewable energies and environmental technologies.
The Higher Education Industrial Cooperation Centre for
Advanced Materials and Intelligent Technologies, estab-
lished in 2021, and the Knowledge Transfer Centre (TTC), established in 2025, are supporting the market utilisation
of the research results and the industrial collaborations.
Campus and community
The 85-hectare, park-like University City off ers modern
educational, research, and leisure opportunities: 29 build-
ings, 7 residence halls, a library, a sports centre, and dining
options are available to the students. The student tradi-
tions of Selmec live on to this day and were added to the
Hungarian List of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in
2014.
Community and cultural involvement
The university is actively present in the economic, social,
and cultural life of the region. The Miskolc Campus Forum,
the International Mineral Festival, the Researchers’ Night,
the Science Festival, the Miskolc University Spring Festival,
and the CineVersity series bring science and art closer
to the general public in a clear and understandable way.
