Small
villages
with great hospitality
Nógrád County has preserved the structure of its small
villages to this day, together with the architectural, eth-
nographic features and parts of the lifestyle of the Palóc
world. Anyone who wishes to experience real hospitality,
should visit us. The Palóc landscape and the Palóc hospi-
tality will also encourage them to return.
The folk art, the architecture and the unique atmosphere of
the Palóc region can still be found in many towns and vil-
lages today. From Kazár to Rimóc, from Mohora to Cser-
hátszentiván, we can immerse ourselves in the richness of
the folk wear and still feel the unity in this abundance in
dozens of villages.
Hollókő, a World Heritage Site, with its importance stands
out among the villages of the inner Cserhát. Hollókő, the
wonder village. It is really almost a miracle that this tiny vil-
lage still preserves its ancient façade and has not became
an open-air museum; it still “lives and breathes”.
Hollokő has everything that makes a place a must-visit
attraction. Charming natural setting, mystical fortress, or-
nate folk wear, uniform architecture and living traditions.
And all of them are organized into a functioning unit. The
Castellum Hotel with a wellness area, all comforts and top
gastronomy is able to encourage the tourists to stay. And
also cosy village guest houses wait for travellers.
There are two villages in the vicinity of Salgótarján that may
be of interest to tourists. Somoskőújfalu and Somoskő.
The Returned Villages, or as the parliamentary resolution
states: Pagi ad Patriamreversi. Dr. Géza Krepuska, a former
landowner and genius ear doctor, brought home these two
villages from their “exile” after the treaty of Trianon. If you
wish to know more about this nation-building story, go
and visit these places. You will not regret it.
