Lake Balaton

One of the symbols of Somogy County and its north-
ern border is Lake Balaton, the former Pelso, the largest
freshwater lake in Central and Western Europe with a
surface area of approximately 600 square kilometres.

Its attraction, among other things, lies in its silky and
soft water of pleasant temperature, which is excellent for

swimming, its favourable climate, and the varied beauty
of the landscape. While bathers find deeper shores on

the northern side of the lake, the water is shallower and
deepens more slowly on the southern side. It has many
popular and internationally known beaches, and many of
them received the Blue Wave Flag certifi cation. Perhaps
fewer people know that not only the lovers of water can
find experiences perfect for them as there are many other

options as well. Among other things, experience spas,
many kinds of cruises, adventure parks, and walks in the
nature await those who arrive here.
