In Szatmár, everyone thinks of the high-quality plum
brandy made from the emblematic fruit of the region, or
the jam made from the plums of Penyige. Panyola and Pe-

nyige are the best places to find such products, however, a

small glass of fruit brandy may be offered anywhere in this
hospitable countryside to cheer up the tired traveller or
doughnuts stuffed with plum jam to relieve their hunger…

Many people who like romantic tours explore this coun-

tryside year after year. The Túr river or rather the Old Túr
are the favourites of families and children. Hundreds of
canoes are paddled among the ever-changing, sometimes
seemingly insurmountable obstacles of the romantic river
in the summer to eat some real local speciality at the end

of the trip: bacon polenta, cabbage stuffed with corn grits,

“knitted noodle” soup.
