The topic keeps coming back: many medieval churches
can be explored in this region. Perhaps the most famous
one is the Reformed Church in the village of Csaroda,
which survived the centuries without major reconstruc-
tions. “Only” its medieval murals were whitewashed, not
even suspecting that it will preserve them for the poster-
ity! The church of Csaroda is one of the most glitt ering

and well-known symbols of the Bereg; its ornamentation
is famous far and wide.
We can find the not medieval, but world-famous church

just a “stone’s throw away” when we walk from Csaroda
to Tákos. The church of the small village of the Bereg Ti-

szahát is an outstanding work of art from the folk archi-
Szatmár- tecture of the 18th century.
We should also mention the church of Lónya, which is a

little further away. The wonders of the Reformed Church
Bereg of Lónya, the northernmost village of the Bereg region,
were revealed when it became necessary to restore the
church due to its dangerous state caused by inland water.
In the course of the work, wonderful murals were found
the land of in unparalleled richness: Romanesque, Gothic, and late
medieval churches Renaissance depictions, which are unique in their quality
among such Hungarian works of art.
