Today, Bonduelle is one of Hungary’s most important food processing companies. The French
family business, founded in 1853, has been present in Hungary for more than 20 years, and it
currently employs 1,000 people in its 3 factories (in Nagykőrös, in Békéscsaba, and in Nyírszőlős),
and in an office in Budapest. In addition to satisfying the domestic needs, the factories also per-
form significant export activities. The name Bonduelle stands for quality: the company is a man-
ufacturer of canned and frozen vegetables such as sweet corn, beans, green peas and mush-
rooms. Over the years, Bonduelle has become an important player in the Hungarian economy.
The factory in Békéscsaba has been a member of the French Bonduelle Group since 2003.
Canned sweet corn and green peas are produced in the factory from May to mid-October. Dur-
ing the early spring and late autumn periods, legumes are processed; canned red beans, white
beans and chickpeas are produced. The raw materials arrive to the factory from the Tiszántúl
region. Green peas are produced on nearly 1,700 hectares and sweet corn on 4,200 hectares; the
factory’s own agronomic team supervises the production. After harvesting, nearly 83,000 tons
of raw materials are processed during the period from May to October.
All products produced in the factory are packaged here according to customer orders. On an av-
erage day, about 680,000 cans are labelled and approx. 40 truckloads of goods leave the factory.
