4 SEASONS,
NUMEROUS
EVENTS
Visitors can enjoy the great festivals and gourmet events with
mouth-watering fl avours at any time of the year in Debrecen,
which, in addition to preserving the local values and traditions, also
follow the modern trends. If each event in Debrecen was marked
with a single colour, from the Campus Festival, the favourite of
young people, to the Béla Bartók international choir competition,
which promotes contemporary choral music, an infi nite colour
range would be shown to us.
However, there is an event that combines all the colours: the
famous Debrecen Flower Carnival has been the town’s most
popular event for more than 50 years. In addition to the domestic
performers, art groups arrive from many parts of the world for the
week-long festival which offers a wealth of exciting programmes.
The climax of the festival is on the 20th of August, when spectac-
ular, several-metre-high fl ower arrangements depicting legends,
tales, and stories “roll” through the town on ornate fl ower cars,
followed by domestic and foreign dancers and tradition-preserv-
ing groups. Throughout the day, there are many shows and pro-
grammes in the spirit of fl owers, dance, and music. Nowadays, it
is a tradition that the town enriches the fl ower carnival with new
attractions every year.
For the fi fth time, this year, the Carnival Night, with thousands of
contributors, fascinates the audience in the Nagyerdei Stadium,
followed by colourful fi reworks and a huge street dance. For
three days, tens of thousands of people saw the impressive 3D
mapping building projection last year, which almost brought the
Reformed Great Church and the Déri Museum to life. This huge
success will be repeated in 2019! It is therefore worthwhile visiting
Debrecen! Those who would like to visit the town in the summer
should start booking their hotel rooms in good time: in Debrecen,
you can choose from several types of accommodation, from bou-
tique hotels to 5-star hotels.
