Throughout the city, we can find statues that make you stop and


                                                         take pictures. István Széchenyi and Lajos Kossuth are freemen
                                                         of our town, their statues stand in the squares named aft er them.
                                                         Prime Minister Imre Nagy was born in Kaposvár, and his statue
                             Public                      was inaugurated on the 40th anniversary of the 1956 revolution
                                                         in the park bearing his name. The painter József Rippl-Rónai also

                           squares                       appears in several places: he sits next to the fountain pool in the
                                                         Rippl-Rónai Park, on a donkey cart on Fő Street, while his statue
                                                         with the one of Endre Ady is found in the street named aft er the
                        and parks                        poet.

                                                         The works of many artists of Kaposvár decorate our public spaces
                                                         and parks. Tótágas (Clown) is ‘stretching himself’ in the Europe
                          adorned                        Park, while Igéző (Enchanter) is watching the street from the

                                                         wall of house at No. 1 Fő Street and Florentin is sitting in front
                     with statues                        of the Rainbow Culture Palace; these statues are all the works
                                                         of art of Klára Weeber, who decorated her sculptures with small

                                                         verses. The Playing Children in front of the house at no. 10 Ady
                                                         Endre Street (the work of Rita Sörös) is mainly popular among
                                                         the children. István Bors’ sculpture titled Napkerék (Sun Wheel),
                                                         located in the Europe Park, also functions as a carousel, while his
                                                         works of art depicting the four seasons decorate the pools of the
                                                         fountains in the Noszlopy Street.
                                                         At the beginning of the 2000s, a new tradition took root in Ka-
                                                         posvár. In order to strengthen the feeling of belonging within the
                                                         town, the  municipality, together with the families, planted a tree
                                                         for the small children living here. However, due to the shortage
                                                         of available spaces, we celebrate the expansion of the local com-

                                                         munity in a different way today. The Tree of Life bronze statue was

                                                         completed with the help of sculptor Katalin Gera, on which more
                                                         than 2,000 copper leaves with the names and the dates of birth of

                                                         the children were placed. The growth of Kaposvár is shown by the
                                                         fact that the leaves filled the foliage of the statue in just a few years,

                                                         and so a second Tree of Life was completed in 2012, and a third
                                                         Tree of Life in 2021; all with the participation of Katalin Gera.
