Hundreds of talented students graduate from the high schools and universities of
Nyíregyháza each year, but many of them decide to continue their studies or start
their careers elsewhere. For this reason, the local government considers it important
to stop the migration trend of the previous decades and would like that as many of them
as possible, return and settle here, or do not leave at all. To this end, it considers it a priority
task, at local level, to support young people and young families in creating their homes. Since
May 2019, there has been support for those who buy their first home in the form of a non-
returnable grant. There are also scholarships, the city’s Talent Attraction and Retention Strategy
was formulated, and a youth database was developed, the aim of which is to allow the city to stay in
continuous contact with its talented young people, even when they are studying or working elsewhere.
