The county’s



                          industry is “picking up”





                   In 1898, the construction of the Silk Weaving Factory was
                   started in Tolna. In the factory, owned by the Hungarian

                   state, production was started in 1900. Fifty kilograms of silk

                   yarn were made a day. The raw material was provided by its
                   own Hungarian silk cocoon, because the Bezerédj family


















                   established silkworm breeding in the county. Th e “Memo-
                   rial Room” which preserves values of the industrial history,

                   is located on the premises of the factory. The Silk Cocoon
                   Warehouse is a special sight.            the Qualified Excellent Product trademark. It is a promi-

                                                            The Kölesd-Borjád Pellet Factory is the most prestigious

                                                            industrial monument in the county. It was founded because
                                                            the industry and the hunters needed large quantities of

                                                            shotgun pellets, which were difficult to buy from abroad.


                                                            The construction of the nuclear power plant was started
                                                            south of Paks in 1969, and has been generating electricity
                                                            as the country’s only nuclear power plant connected to the
                                                            power grid since 1987. Today, it generates slightly more
                                                            than half of the domestic power supply. During its establish-
                                                            ment and operation, the Hungarian expertise accumulated

                                                            in the field of nuclear energy is not only internationally re-
                                                            nowned, but also another Tolnaicum. The Information and

                                                            Visitor Centre began operating in 1995, and the Museum of
