Debrecen is one of those special towns whose name is con-
nected with a fl avour. The Hungaricum Debrecen double sau-

tival or at the Debrecziner Gourmet gastronomic festival, which
are specifi cally Debrecen double sausage-themed events.
However, the range of festivals dedicated to fl avours does not
end here. Pleasant open-air festivals with street fairs, concerts,
and children’s programmes are organized around the Man-
galica pig in the spring, gingerbread, turkey and wine in the
summer, goose in the autumn, and fi sh in the winter. A visit to
the Great Market of Debrecen is an unforgettable experience,
where the real gourmand cannot only taste the ingredients of
the specialties of Debrecen – pickled whole cabbage, honey
from local farmers, fresh cheese, and mangalica sausage – but
can also experience the authentic market atmosphere, and all
of this in the city centre, within walking distance of the main
sights. If anyone wonders how the ingredients are combined
into a real Debrecen menu, from the pork spine soup to the
stuffed cabbage of Debrecen, they can choose from several
restaurants which offer traditional fl avours, or learn the skills of
traditional cooking on an entertaining cookery course at the
Chef Academy.

antee culinary delights for those who do not have time for a re-
laxed, hearty meal. Those who cannot decide between classic
and trendy should try the “traditional but different” meals in the
Ikon (Icon) Restaurant. The many gastronomic programmes of-
fering tasty delicacies give everyone the opportunity to re-visit
Debrecen in any season of the year.
