Experience in
Heves County
Heves County is the land of special values where thousands
of experiences wait for the visitors.
Many unique treasures can be found in our wonderful na-
tural landscape. One of these is the Caveman’s Cave of Is-
tállóskő, while the other is the Stone-Road of Bükkalja,
which as a thematic road laces all the special stone memo-
ries of Bükkalja, the beehive-stones, the cave houses made
by our predecessors, the cellars, and the carved stone stat-
ues.
On our traditional hiking places the trackers of the National
Blue Circle can hike from Bélapátfalva to the Bükk High-
lands and the modern pilgrims of the Mary Road can hike
from Egerszólát to Cserépváralja. From the “Gate of the
Bükk”, Szilvásvárad we can reach the Szalajka Valley, famous
for the Veil Waterfall and trout lakes, and from Felsőtárkány
the Stimecz House by forest railroad. We can try more ex-
treme sports like mountain biking, paragliding, and rock
climbing, as well.
Architectural monuments and historic buildings are the
witnesses of the diverse, often turbulent history of Heves
County. Our castles and palaces remind us of the past.
The built heritage of our villages are proud to have many
exhibition places, from village folk rooms, through to the
Castle of Eger, which was named as a National Memorial
Site in 2015. The Hungarian-Garner-House at Szihalom is
an interactive experience centre guides us to the diff erent
ethnographic areas of the Carpathian Basin.
