In Mezőkövesd - similar to Bogács - you will find a spa
…, and get that owes its existence to mineral oil exploration: in 1939,
instead of mineral oil, a 30-metre hot water column surged
out of a hole drilled on the land owned by Lajos Zsóry. Th e
healthy Spa can be recognized from afar due to its characteristic
sulphuric smell. The healing effect of the water of the Zsóry
Medicinal and Open-air Spa makes it one of the most
naturally! valuable natural treasures of Hungary, which is absolute-
ly unique, even in Europe. There are three thermal pools
with different temperatures, a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, a
sauna, and a medical department is also available for visi-
tors. Once you have enjoyed the Spa’s services, come and
see the local Matyó folk art, which, as a Hungaricum and
part of the UNESCO’s intellectual cultural world heritage,
enhances our county’s reputation.
The list of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County’s thermal wa-
ters is continuing: Tiszaújváros also has its medicinal wa-
ter. The water of the spa, with a temperature of 65 °C,
which bursts to the surface from a depth of 1,200 meters
and has a relatively high salt concentration, resulted in
the site being declared a national medicinal spa in 2001.
It is effective primarily in the treatment of joint problems,
chronic gynaecological and urological diseases, and its
stress-relieving effect relaxes anyone pleasantly aft er the
rush of everyday life.
The treasured thermal water of Sárospatak was found
through borehole exploration in 1959. The thermal water
of Végardó Bath, with therapeutic effects and a tempera-
ture of 38 °C, which bursts to the surface, is recommended
for the treatment of joint and vascular diseases. Th e fi rst
whitewashed stone pool was built thanks to the social
work of the town’s inhabitants in the early ’60s. Architect
Imre Makovecz designed the present appearance of the
spa; the building opened in 2009 was his last design aft er
his more than four decades of work in Sárospatak. Th e Spa
awaits its guests with thermal water with a healing eff ect
and a temperature of 38 °C.
