Csongrád-Csanád County abounds in natural treasures. Th e
Tisza is the second largest river in our country and a defi ning
element of the hydrography of the Great Plain. Every year,
when the proper temperatures reach the required value, the
beautiful guests of the Tisza River, the mayfl ies begin to
hatch. Th e “Tisza fl owering” usually lasts from the middle
of June to the end of the month.

The Pusztaszer Landscape Protection District, rich in sights
and natural resources, stretches from Tömörkény to Szeged.
Its largest still water is Lake Fehér (White) in Szeged, which

is a fishpond system created from a former saline lake. Th e
Sirály (Seagull) nature trail presents the history of Lake
Fehér in Szeged and its rich birdlife.
Lake Nagyszéksós in Mórahalom is one of the valuable Close to
saline habitats found in the Danube–Tisza Interfl uve. Th e
Bölömbika (Eurasian bitt ern) nature trail presents the
colourful, mosaic-like habitats of Lake Nagyszéksós and its nature
surroundings, the waterside associations with reeds and bul-
                     rushes, and the sedge meadows.
From a botanical point of view, the Ásott halom Marsh is
the most valuable protected natural area in the southern
part of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve. Due to its diversity and

uniqueness in many aspects, it was named Csodarét (Miracle
Meadow) by its fi rst visitors.
Körös-torok (Körös Beach) is a favourite location for social
life during the summer months. It is no surprise, since the
warm 25 to 27 Cº water and the hot sand create the illusion

of a beach. In the afternoons, the beach is filled with swim-
ming and sunbathing families, with small children splashing
                     in the shallow water.

The unique image of the town of Szentes is determined by
the Kurca River that crosses it. Th e Széchenyi Grove sur-
rounded by the Kurca River is the largest park in Szentes. In
its current form, the grove is a nature reserve bordered by
the Kurca River and is also the centre of tourism in Szentes.

The newest attraction of the Mártély Landscape Protec-

tion District is the so-called Ártér (Flood Area) Nature Trail,
which presents the northern part of the area called “Korhány”.
Th e Mártély Backwater is a popular holiday area with a free
beach, campsite, boat rental, restaurants, and the opportunity
                     for horseback riding.
