Ópusztaszer is already found in the stories about the Con-
quest. It is no surprise that almost a millennium later, the
National Heritage Park was founded here, with the aim of
preserving the customs and traditions of ancient Hungarians.
The presentation of numerous monuments, traditional build-
ings and occupations help us learn about the adventurous life
of our ancestors. Today, not only the Feszty Panorama off ers
visitors an unforgettable experience, but also permanent ex- In the
hibitions and services and events in other areas of the park
make the programme highly colourful.
The Árpád Monument, which was erected in 1896 in hon- footsteps
our of the 1000-year anniversary of the Conquest, is located
in a decorative square at the end of the main promenade of
Heritage Park. Temporary exhibitions can be visited in the of our
building of the Visitor Centre, and the Conference Room is
also found here. Visitors to the cinema can watch the 3D an-
imated film entitled “The History of Szer and the History of ancestors…
Hungary”.
Perhaps the most popular attractions of the Heritage Park are
the open-air ethnographic collections and the open-air mu-
seum. Walking among the houses of the collection, visitors
can feel part of the former world of peasants; a “living open-air
museum” awaits everyone. The farmers, dressed in national cos-
tumes, present the lifestyle of our ancestors, and we can meet
a gendarme and a shepherd, the typical figures of the period
between the two world wars. Moreover, in the farm school, we
can take part in a class that evokes the past.
At the entrance to Heritage Park, the statue of Att ila, erected
in 2022, welcomes visitors. Attila’s tall and proud statue proves
and serves the strengthening of the Hungarian spirit.
